This past week I had the opportunity to attend the largest biennial convention in the fraternity world: the Grand Chapter Conclave.
Every two years, SigEps from across the nation gather to consider new legislation, make changes to the national bylaws, and establish the trajectory of the fraternity until the next Conclave.
This year’s event was hosted in Houston, and, along with a lazy river in the shape of Texas, had over 1100 undergraduate brothers and alumni in attendance.
The impact Conclave had on me can not be overstated. Watching so many alumni take time off work, leave their families, and travel hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles for this organization has truly shown me that SigEp doesn’t last for just four years- but for a lifetime.
My personal highlight from this experience was getting to re-connect with brothers from different schools who have quickly become my close friends. Through multiple Carlson Leadership Academys, the Ruck Leadership Institute, and now Conclave, SigEp has given me a place to crash for a night in almost every state in the country.
In Fall 2017, I took “One Giant Leap” and joined a fraternity that was just returning to campus with less than a dozen members on the promise of building something great. As I arrive at the half-way point in my undergraduate career and reflect back on my time, SigEp has facilitated multiple unparalleled experiences for me that I will continue to build on for the rest of my time in college and beyond.
